Over the past decade, Cyprus has become home to a growing number of international companies, founders and families. The reasons are practical rather than glamorous: a clear legal system, a competitive tax framework and the security of EU membership.

A competitive corporate tax rate

From 1 January 2026, the corporate income tax rate in Cyprus is 15%, in line with the international minimum agreed through the OECD. It remains one of the more competitive rates in the EU.

A wide treaty network

Cyprus has double tax treaties with around 65 countries, including EU member states, the United Kingdom, the United States, China, India and the UAE, which helps companies avoid being taxed twice on the same income.

Dividends, interest and royalties

In most cases, Cyprus does not levy withholding tax on dividends, interest or royalties paid to non-residents. Exceptions apply to payments to companies in jurisdictions on the EU’s list of non-cooperative countries.

Support for intellectual property

Under the IP box regime, qualifying profits from patents and software can benefit from an effective tax rate of around 3%, which has attracted technology and software companies to the island.

A familiar legal system

Cyprus law is based largely on English common law, and English is widely used in business and the courts. For many international investors, this makes contracts and procedures feel familiar.

What it means for property

As more companies relocate staff and founders settle on the island, demand for quality homes, especially in Limassol, has grown with them. For buyers, the same strengths that attract businesses (stability, EU membership and a predictable legal framework) are worth weighing when choosing where to invest.

A note of caution

Tax rules are complex and depend on each person’s or company’s situation. We always recommend speaking to a qualified tax adviser before making decisions.
